About Me

So who is this, Lady Makes-A-Lot?

I am foremost a Christian. I am also a:

  • wife
  • mother
  • daughter
  • sister
  • aunt
  • friend
  • homeschool teacher
  • photographer
  • crafter
  • baker
  • chef
  • gardener…

Now I would be lying if I said I excelled at all (or any!) of these, but they are all roles that I might fill on a given day.

I have been a “maker” for as long as I can remember. In fact, I come from a long line of makers. My parents have both excelled at working with their hands and the fruit of their labors continues to bring much joy to others. My Dad is a carpenter. My mom is an amazing baker, cake decorator, and floral arranger. Most recently, she has begun to make the most gorgeous flowers from polymer clay. And together, my parents maintain the most beautiful flower gardens! As a child growing up in Canada, I remember frequently making various arts + crafts projects using supplies that my mom always had an abundance of. I loved to make doll furniture with wood found in my grandfather’s scrap pile. In school, some of my favorite classes were Art, Home-Ec and Shop. I should not have been surprised that I would pursue a career that would allow me to be creative: Photography. For nearly 10 years, I specialized in wedding, portrait, family, and concert photography. After I moved to Colorado and married my husband, and after our kids were born, my creative pursuits were some of the things that energized me through the early years as a stay-at-home mom. I have continued to focus much of my free time on building my skills to bless my family and friends.

One other thing about me, is I don’t like to always follow directions. (A dear friend says it’s because I’m a middle child!) I usually tend to want to do things my way. I find my inspiration in different places and instead of following instructions to accomplish a certain task, I have fun figuring out how I can do it myself and then add my own spin to it!

I am fascinated by the SCIENCE of baking. Once you know what the ingredients do and how they interact with each other, you can focus on finding the ultimate flavor combinations. I am a comfort food[ie]. I love meals that make me feel like I’m having a hearty meal made by my Mom.

In 2016, when I was mentally and physically exhausted, I decided to see if I could begin to heal my body, from the inside out. So I began a pantry overhaul. Although not perfect, I started to search for substitutes for white sugar + flour. I have enjoyed finding ways to make my favorite meals and baked goods in a more healthy way. I definitely want to make sure it’s something my family and I will still ENJOY eating!!

I believe gifts are meant to be shared, not squandered. This blog was born out of my desire to share my creative pursuits and inspire others! I hope you can appreciate the beauty and goodness given by God. I also hope that you will find ways to develop your own gifts and talents and maybe even find yourself saying, “I can do that!”

I pray you’ll be blessed by what you find here,

Nancy
