SPEAKER SCREEN DIY

Whether it’s something for our homeschooling, or just something to motivate me to get my various house-cleaning tasks completed, I often have music playing in our home.

Over the years I have backed up all my music cds and stored the music on Google Music, now YouTube Music. We can then listen to any type of music from our rather large collection. Several years ago, my husband bought me a Chromecast Audio to plug into some computer speakers. The technology has since improved and I am sure I can buy some fancy-shmancy speakers, but my set-up sounds great…and looks terrible! I can hide the little speakers behind the decor, but the subwoofer is an eyesore. So, I decided I should create a screen using speaker fabric.

I knew I needed a frame and stands of some sort to hold the fabric and support the screen. Of course, I could buy wood, cut it to size, assemble it, add custom supports, buuut…was there an easier way? You bet! I tried pulling the staples out of a 12×12 Artist Loft brand canvas and repurposing the frame. That was the perfect size to fit inside my shelf cubes! The fabric would look too plain on its own, so I found a design I liked on designbundles.com and cut it from Siser Stripflock using my Silhouette Cameo. I pressed the design on the fabric then stapled it on the wood frame and screwed on a couple cheap shelf supports that I found at Ikea. It now sits in front of the subwoofer and can easily be removed if I need to access the speaker.
